It...Yeah, Shadow of the Colossus a perfect example! It's by the same folks who made ICO, and is an even better empty space: like you say, there aren't any random monsters popping up, plus there were incredible unobstructed views that conveyed the vastness of the space (and somehow still surprising you with fresh vistas). I have to confess that I never beat that game, but the little I saw was excellent.

I haven't played any of the Gothic games, but that sounds cool... as you've probably already guessed, atmosphere goes a LONG way in my enjoyment of RPGs.Christopher Charles Horatio Xavier King III, Esq.https://www.blogger.com/profile/17305941155602648384noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15815968.post-11771439545040752742014-04-15T16:40:26.106-07:002014-04-15T16:40:26.106-07:00Did you ever play Shadow of the Colossus? Lots of ...Did you ever play Shadow of the Colossus? Lots of empty space there. It was a very peaceful game because, in most cases, there were no surprise combats. In fact, most of the colossi were completely peaceful. You could hang around in their habitats and watch them wheel and swim and fly until you finally decided it was time to kill them.

Personally, my biggest empty space memory is Gothic III. It's not necessarily a great game, but it had great music and fairly sparse environments, and I spent so much time just walking through the mountains and looking at things and occasionally killing them. It really was very peaceful.

(Also, good call on Ultima. That really was a pretty fun game to walk around in. I loved the innumerable little treasure troves and hidden caves you could find).rahkanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04197789931178553085noreply@blogger.com
